Christmas Design 2011

Recently, I have been experimenting with hand-drawn imagery converted to digital imagery. This proved useful for some projects I completed before Christmas.

The images were drawn by hand with a permanent marker before being scanned and converted to colour imagery on the computer.

Below is a couple of examples of hand-drawn imagery converted to digital designs.

St Vincent de Paul Christmas Party

A local branch of the St Vincent de Paul Society (in Bendigo) held a Christmas BBQ for people from disadvantaged backgrounds. People from Office of Housing units along with a caravan park used as emergency accommodation were invited to attend the BBQ.

In designing these invitations, I created something that would be eye-catching with the aim of promoting social inclusion and adding Christmas cheer.

Above is the original drawing used for the invitation design.

Kennington Catholic Parish – Invitation design for Christmas youth gathering

A Christmas gathering for young people was recently held at my local church. To attract the target audience to this event, a flyer was created and distributed.

The nativity scene was simplified to simply show Jesus and the Christmas star.

As was the case with the invitations for the St Vinnies Christmas BBQ, the illustrations were created by hand and finished on the computer.

The original sketch shows the various design elements presented in different positions and proportions to the final image. Each component of the image (the baby Jesus, halo and star) were scanned individually, with the entire image being recomposed digitally.
