Murray River and Floodplains

Words cannot describe how amazing it is to see the Murray River flooded. For me, it is a once in a lifetime experience.

I went out by boat to explore the floodwaters and it was lovely to actually navigate through the floodplains. It is difficult to believe that we were in a drought a year ago.

Although my ‘tour guide’ mentioned that it would be the last time they would be able to navigate the floodwaters by boat (the waters were beginning to subside), the water will have surely flooded again by the time I post this blog (as I write, it is certainly flooded in the Loddon River, a tributary of the Murray River). In fact, I had been used to seeing the Murray River (and other rivers in Victoria) at such low level over the past decade, so seeing an abundance of water is a novelty.

I must admit it was challenging trying to take interesting photographs whilst moving along in a boat at fast speeds. However, I hope you enjoy the best of my photographs. I am so thankful for the opportunities to see the floodwaters that I am unlikely to see again for many years.

A month earlier, I also took some photos of the Murray River (further upstream) at Echuca. Please click here to view.
